Disable remote desktop access if not needed

If you do not use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or similar remote access tools, disable them on your computers.

Why this matters

RDP is one of the most targeted services by ransomware operators. If you don't need it, switch it off.

How to do it

  1. Windows: 1. Search for 'Remote Desktop settings'
  2. Toggle 'Enable Remote Desktop' to Off
  3. Mac: System Settings → Sharing — ensure 'Remote Management' and 'Remote Login' are off
  4. If you do need remote access, use a VPN rather than exposing RDP to the internet
